Jasper Insureds Claim Information

We are happy that the re-opening of the Jasper town site took place today as planned. There are Peace Hills representatives there on the ground at the Insurance Bureau of Canada’s (IBC) welcome tent. If you are one of our insureds and have not had a chance to do so, please feel free to stop by. We will be at Commemoration Park – 1324 Pyramid Lake Road until at least August 26th.

With our presence there in Jasper has come further clarity on the state of our insured’s losses. For specific information and questions regarding your claim, please get in touch with your Adjuster. That said, here is some general information that will be applicable to most:

Appliance Disposal

If your structure is still standing and safe to enter, one of the first issues you will face is dealing with damaged fridges and freezers. As part of the Jasper re-entry plan, residents will be given a QR code for a “White Goods Disposal Form”. Insureds will need to complete this form to have Ellis Don attend your residence to collect your damaged fridge(s) and/or freezer(s). For further information about disposal, please refer to the re-entry guide, and for information about appliance replacement and reimbursement for the contents, please discuss this with your Adjuster.

Building Damage

Your Adjuster will help you assess the damage on your property and determine if it can be cleaned up while taking proper precautions, or whether professionals should be hired. Rest assured that we have a preferred contractor who has already been mobilized and is ready and waiting to assist in Jasper with assessing damaged structures that require a professional. If your structure only suffered smoke damage and you would like to clean the property yourself, a cleaning allowance will be offered. Please discuss these details with your Adjuster.

Additional Financial Support

As mentioned in our previous notice, there are two additional financial resources we encourage you to explore:

Alberta Evacuation Payments: Albertans, including temporary foreign workers, may be eligible to receive a one-time payment of $1,250 for each adult and an additional $500 for each child under 18. For eligibility requirements and how to apply, please visit www.alberta.ca/emergency or call 1-877-644-9992

Canadian Red Cross Assistance: As of July 31st, the Canadian Red Cross Is providing $750 per household for people evacuated from their primary residence in Jasper to help with your urgent needs. To register and find out if you are eligible to access these funds, please visit www.redcross.ca or call 1-800-863-6582

Most of our insureds have already begun the claims process, but if you haven’t yet done so, please get in touch. Our claims team can be reached at 1-800-272-5614 or by emailing newclaims@phgic.com. While we wish it was under better circumstances, we look forward to meeting many of our Jasper insureds and are ready to help you begin the journey to recovery and rebuilding.
