Manager, Special Investigations Unit

We currently have a full-time position available for a Manager, Special Investigations within our Edmonton office. This role provides leadership and guidance to employees within the Special Investigations Unit. The Manager oversees the detection, investigation, and prevention of fraudulent insurance claims activities. Working with the investigators they will analyze suspicious claims, ensure compliance with legal standards and collaborate with law enforcement and legal professionals to mitigate financial risk.

More specifically:

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide strong leadership and management to a team of investigators;
  • Build, manage, and maintain robust internal processes for detection and investigation of suspicious insurance claims;
  • Conduct investigations of insurance claims focusing on fraudulent behaviours including falsified losses, staged collisions, exaggerated damages and provider fraud;
  • Assess current and future business needs and look to drive operational efficiency and improved detection methods;
  • Collaborate with Claims Managers to support the claims function while ensuring the achievement of customer service standards;
  • Liaise with law enforcement, government agencies, and other investigators and associations to learn about, and understand, trends in insurance fraud and organized crime;
  • Deliver reporting on investigation results, trends, and opportunities;
  • Monitor team performance and determine appropriate training requirements within the department utilizing investigatory best practices;
  • Work with Claims Managers to identify and deliver specific training needs and opportunities for Claims Advisors.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in an investigative role with law enforcement, including experience leading investigation teams;
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in insurance;
  • Relevant post-secondary education;
  • CIP or FCIP Designation or working towards is an asset;
  • Guidewire experience will be considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in conducting thorough investigations using a collaborative approach with support from key resources and stakeholders;
  • Advanced analytical and practical problem-solving skills with the ability to make difficult decisions on complex issues quickly;
  • Strong communication skills and adept at presenting facts clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing as well as the ability to deliver difficult messages with tact and diplomacy;
  • Ability to anticipate future business needs and build strategies to proactively address changing demands;
  • Exceptional ability to build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external partners;
  • Ability to train others in fraud investigation and identification;
  • Thorough understanding of the financial impact of insurance fraud and ability to develop and implement investigative strategies;
