Underwriting Product Development Specialist (Auto)

Our Product Development team is growing! We currently have an opening for Underwriting Product Development Specialist (Auto) based out of our Edmonton office.  Reporting to the Director of Underwriting and Product Development, this role will support multi-line underwriting, with a strong emphasis on auto product development and exposure to other lines.   More specifically, the responsibilities would include the following:

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide advice and guidance to branch underwriting departments on issues relating to underwriting, risk assessment, policy wordings and pricing
  • Lead the development and enhancement of auto insurance products, including private passenger and commercial lines
  • Analyze markets, segments, geographies and lines of business and provide recommendations on findings
  • Provide support for and serve on special project committees as initiated by the company
  • Communicate with all branches within the organization on underwriting related issues
  • Promote workflow efficiencies through regular coaching and information sessions
  • Provide direction and ensure compliance at the regulatory and company level
  • Develop scope, schedule, monitor and participate in various audits, as well as providing underwriting guidance for audits.
  • Conduct technical reviews and provide underwriting guidance resulting from audits
  • Contribute to reinsurance program analysis and exposure management
  • Collaborate with operations teams to develop resolutions, create remediation plans, and generate related reports.
  • Ensure that changes to ratings and products comply with various regulatory requirements across all lines of business
  • Keep current with existing and emerging market trends
  • Participate in professional development (i.e. seminars, webinars, etc.) opportunities as available
  • Other duties as required

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • CIP/FCIP designation
  • Minimum 10 years related experience in an underwriting role, multi line preferred
  • Exposure and experience to auto
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
  • Development and delivery of training materials is an asset
  • Exposure to underwriting projects is preferred
  • Deep understanding of underwriting, products, and pricing.
  • Understanding of regulatory reporting requirements (IBC, RSP, etc..)
  • Experience leading projects is an asset
  • Guidewire experience would be an asset.
